Nocifensive Behavior

Definition

Nocifensive behaviors are those that are evoked by stimuli that activate the nociceptive sensory apparatus. They are associated with protection against insult and injury typically in response to a noxious stimulus. Responses to noxious stimuli in animals may include behaviors resembling responses to pain in humans, such as limping, flinching, vocalization and reflexive withdrawal.
